My Paintings: the cheerful expressionist

I recently found time to finish some new abstract paintings, which are actually meant for an interior designer friend. I'm quite eager to see if these will compliment her latest project.

It takes time to complete a painting, and also one will need inspiration. Thinking back about my trips to France, where you find inspiration and beauty all around! I completed almost 10 paintings during my 1 month vacation there... sadly I didn't bring them back, since we had too much stuff in our luggages already. But it's nice to reminisce.

It's my first time to create blue abstract paintings... now that I think of it. My only blue-inspired creation was the Mykonos painting, which I made after a beautiful week spent in Greece.

  3. I appreciate paintings and art very much and im an avid fan of Salvador Dali's... I'd like to learn how to do acrylic and oil painting, where do i start?? As in where should i start reading in order to pickup the basics? I have done water color painting before during my school days which would be more than 10 years ago.. Or would you advice me to start painting with water color first since i have not painted for years n then only move on to acrylic or oil painting to build up my confidence?? By the way, i love ur blogs, they are very concise and very well written..

  4. Starting with acrylics is VERY VERY easy. just go to an ART SHOP and buy acrylic painting. It's like water-color at some point, bec it uses water to spread / thin the colors. Another suggestion to boost confidence... join an art class somewhere convenient for you. It usually helps inspire your inner artist and if you can get a good teacher, he/she can help bring out the best in you! I was more confident when I enrolled myself for 10 classes with a famous artist in Manila. He was very encouraging and gave pointers while i was in action. I seem to have "grown" much more since that time... and it was a worthwhile investment. Start with acrylics... don't fear! It dries quickly too!

  6. U normally paint on canvas or paper?

  7. i usually paint on canvas. dont use paper. it's more inspiring on canvas. buy some medium sized cheap canvas and start there. dont fear. also, it helps to buy a not-expensive easel which will hold the canvas up. i invested on an el-cheapo Ikea at first. After i sold some paintings i treated myself to a really solid one which is adjustable and beautiful. today it stands at my living room as a painting holder while i dont use it. happy to help! go visit a museum, get inspiration on what you would like to paint. or surf the web, you can see different paintings and see which style you would like to take inspiration from.

  8. I will do just that!! In fact, I've been surfing the web to learn the basics and all quirks in using acrylics.. I've also taken the initiative to view other painters' work lately for inspiration, looking forward to also sharing with u my experiences when I start with it in the very near future and also to get further pointers and tips from you as i go along, thanks anabelle!! Question, do u refer normally to photographs that u have taken when u paint?? By the way, I have just viewed your most recent blog posting with your art collection, very lovely indeed, really appreciate it, well done!! I hope to be able to paint as well some day..:)

    Hugs,
    Adrianne

p.s. I still reminisce those days when I was travelling in europe where art galleries were so easily accessible and I could just visit them anytime I wanted... Those renowned painters' works are truly amazing!!
